Our locksmith apprentice program introduces and teaches the basic skills one must know to begin a career in the locksmith industry. This course is for an individual without any or limited previous experience wishing to enter into the locksmith field. The ideal candidate would be someone with mechanical ability that likes to use their hands, and enjoys trouble shooting problems. Or someone that would like to learn an in demand trade rather than attend a four year college degree.

What Makes Our School Different?
Probably the biggest distinction between our apprenticeship program and available schooling is that we don’t charge you anything. Yes, you read that correctly. The Locksmith Industry is in dire need of technicians. Due to the fast pace of our business, Easter’s quit teaching from within years ago. For years we chose to hire existing technicians throughout the mid-Atlantic region, only to find that they often fell short of our industry standards and those of our founder, Robert Easter Sr.
So, we’ve rethought our process and decided to make the following offer:
We are willing to bring in the right individual(s) and teach them our trade. There is a business theory that says “hire for attitude, train for skill” and that has become our approach. We are looking for individuals whose personal values are in sync with the values of our company. Have a well-rounded personality and a dedicated attitude towards becoming a locksmith and we’ll be happy to consider you for our apprenticeship program.
What Other Types of Locksmith Schools Are There?
There are basically three different ways to learn the locksmith trade.
- Online Courses
- Physically attend classes/school
Home study, or online courses, can be a beneficial way to begin your locksmith studies while working a full-time job, traveling, or juggling multiple responsibilities. Through informational podcasts and follow-up quizzes, online courses give you the ability to learn on your own time. The downfall of online courses is that many of them take months, if not a year or more, to complete. They are also quite costly. Depending on your course load, online courses can cost anywhere from several hundred to several thousand dollars to complete. But our least favorite aspect to online courses? The lack of hand-on experience that is necessary in the locksmithing trade.
Physically Attend a Locksmith School
The second option is attending a locksmith school. The Associated Locksmiths of America (ALOA) have compiled a list of several accredited schools for learning the locksmith trade. You can view them here . While locksmith schools will give you the direct experience we find so important in this field, the cost of attending these school can run in excess of thousands of dollars, with meals, travel, and lodging often not included.
Last, but not least, is the way that it’s been done for thousands of years and what we consider the proper way: have a Professional Locksmith take you under their wing and teach you the trade. At Easter’s Lock & Security Systems we offer a 60-day apprentice program that provides you first-hand education and experience. Our accredited locksmiths teach you the profession one-on-one so that you gain the proper skillset required for the trade. After all, to become a great locksmith doesn’t it make sense to learn from one?

How Does It Work?
Complete our online application, available here (link to: application). We want to get to know you. As we said, character is key. If you’re willing to learn, we’re willing to teach.
Introductory Phase: 1-2 weeks
Within the first 1 – 2 weeks we’ll know if you’re the right type of person for the trade. At this point if you’re not, we will thank you for your time and wish you the best in your future endeavors.
If we think you have what it takes, your instruction will continue at no charge to you except for any personal tools you might want to purchase (which will be at our wholesale cost, unlike other schools).
Review of Apprenticeship: 4 weeks
At the end of your first 30 day period you will receive a review. We’re going to let you know exactly where we think you are in the process and discuss with you your abilities, techniques, and your future instruction.
In the next 30 days following we will review the way you apply yourself and your skills will determine as to your future with the company. If after your first 60 days you’ve exceeded our expectations you will then be either offered a paid position within the company or allowed to continue your education for 30 more days at no cost.
Final Review of Apprenticeship: 8 weeks
At the end of next 30 days (60 days total) you again will be reviewed and either be offered a contractual position with the company or your free instruction will be terminated.
Fair enough? We think so.
